The goal of JMT's awareness campaigns is to educate everyone about the fact that while treating heart disease is obviously costly, preventing it only takes modest effort. So, we teach young students about several healthy ways of living.

World Heart Day

On World Heart Day, JMT raises awareness by organizing free heart health camps, providing screenings and medical consultations, and promoting healthy lifestyle habits in communities. In collaboration with Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, JMT also supports underprivileged heart patients by distributing essential medical and nutritional supplies, with special focus on children, aiming to promote prevention and early treatment of heart diseases.

Children and Youth Education Program

Nepal Development Society (NeDS), in collaboration with JMT, conducted Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Orientation for school students and Afno Mutu Bachaoo book distribution, a project being implemented in the Pokhara Metropolitan City of Kaski District. The project was initiated with a one-day extensive workshop for the field supervisors of the organization on the basics of cardiovascular disease, the precautions required, and teaching it to students in a fun and effective manner. So far, it has shown amazing feedback, with more schools inquiring about this project and requesting similar programs in their schools.

Objectives: A comprehensive school health program was conducted in order to increase awareness about prevention and management of CVDs.

Activities

In coordination with schools of Pokhara Metropolitan City, a one-day orientation for volunteer staff on NCDs was provided and volunteers were trained to conduct classes on Cardiovascular Diseases.

A school health orientation program on awareness of Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in 37 government schools of Pokhara Metropolitan was provided to a total of 5000 students. Most of the schools were satisfied with the orientation program as it was an important topic and would be very helpful and fruitful for their students. They thanked us for conducting the informative program and suggested organizing such programs in the coming days as well. Students were keen and showed very good response, and the session was very interactive. In some schools from Pokhara, we organized the orientation program by collaborating with Nepal Red Cross Society and other local organizations. Furthermore, we also provided information to the students about services provided by Jayanti Memorial Trust from Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara.

14TH February Event

February is Heart Month, dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and cardiovascular diseases. Hence, on this occasion, JMT held an art competition at Bal Mandir, Naxal with the theme ‘Art from the Heart’ followed by free ECHO screenings. In coordination with Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center under the leadership of Dr Rabi Malla, we were able to screen 200 little hearts at Bal Mandir and 21 suspected children were referred for their further diagnosis and treatment. Along with that, 20 children from Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC), Budanilkantha were also screened.

The concept behind these kind of events is to draw attention to the need that each individual and community has to keep their hearts happy, healthy and beating well all throughout their lives.
