On October 22, 2023, a free cardiac health camp was successfully conducted at the Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara, organized by the Jayanti Memorial Trust (JMT) in collaboration with a team of expert doctors from the University of Washington and the Manmohan Cardio Thoracic Vascular and Transplant Center (MCVTC).
The primary objective of the camp was to provide comprehensive cardiac screening and care to the local population, particularly targeting individuals from the outskirts of Pokhara who have limited access to specialized cardiac services. The program served as an important initiative to detect, prevent, and manage heart-related conditions within the community.
A total of 423 individuals from various surrounding areas of Pokhara participated in the camp. Among them, 160 ECGs were performed to assess heart rhythm and electrical activity, while 192 ECHOs were conducted to evaluate cardiac structure and function. Based on the findings, 13 suspected cardiac cases were identified and referred for further diagnosis and treatment at advanced medical centers.
In addition to diagnostic services, over 350 patients received free medications, helping them to continue their treatment and manage ongoing cardiac conditions. The camp also provided valuable health counseling and education on heart disease prevention, lifestyle modification, and early detection of cardiac symptoms. This collaborative effort between JMT, the University of Washington, MCVTC, and Western Regional Hospital underscores a shared commitment to improving cardiovascular health and delivering quality medical services to communities in need. The success of this camp highlights the importance of public–private partnerships in expanding access to specialized healthcare across Nepal.
