Cardiac Camp at Burtibang, Baglung

May 25th 2024

Burtibang is a village development committee in Baglung District in the Dhaulagiri Zone of central Nepal. Located at a distance of 90 km from Baglung district headquarters, the city has not yet been able to provide good health services with just one district level hospital in the main city. Only the primary health center is in operation. While some private sector hospitals have come into operation, the area, which has been plagued by armed people's war, has been undergoing rapid urbanization since 2065 BS.

Cardiac camps are crucial in rural areas where technical access to healthcare is limited. They provide essential health screenings and services that benefit local communities. Hence, on 25th May 2024, with the financial support from Edward Life Sciences Foundation, a cardiac camp was organized at Burtibang, West Baglung by Jayanti Memorial trust in collaboration with Lions Club of Burtibang and Dhorpatan, with technical assistance from Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center. The camp aimed to provide essential cardiac health screenings and services to the community.

Activities and Achievements:

  • Screenings: A total of 749 individuals were screened for various cardiac conditions at Burtibang, Baglung.
  • Diagnostic Tests:
    600 ECHOs were performed
    180 ECGs were conducted
578 were found to be hypertensive patients
143 were found to be sugar patients
  • Referrals: 10 suspected patients identified during the camp were referred for further diagnosis and treatment, ensuring timely intervention and care.
  • Medicine Distribution: Lapen Pharmaceuticals distributed free medicines to over 500 individuals, addressing immediate health needs identified during the camp.

Conclusion:

The free cardiac camp positively impacted communities in and around Burtibang, including Khunga, Adhikarichaur, and Bobang VDCs. The collaborative efforts of JMT, Lions Club, and Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center, under the leadership of Dr. Rabi Malla, shows a commitment to public health and community welfare. The success of the cardiac camp underscores the importance of such initiatives in addressing critical health needs and promoting well-being among underserved populations in rural parts.
